Recently TechCrunch completed it’s first anniversary. So in a way, Web 2.0 is nearly one year old…or should I say one year young. Any and every Web 2.0 company strives to be featured on TechCrunch. Michael Arrington’s comments, whether positive or negative are traffic drivers to any Web 2.0 Company’s website featured on his blog. His comments have a ‘digg’ effect on the companies. TechCrunch has already made Michael a millionaire. This makes TechCrunch an unique example of a Business Blog. As an avid reader of this blog, this phenomena made me think about what might be in store for TechCrunch, Michael Arrington and Web 2.0 companies in coming year(s):
- TechCrunch creates a new Web 2.0 index, which is later adopted by Wall Street.
- TechCrunch unveils a new Web 2.0 stock trading website which is an instant hit and generates virtual millionaires.
- TechCrunch becomes unofficial Better Business Bureau for Web 2.0 companies.
- Michael Arrington’s commentary on a Web 2.0 company drives stock prices up or down depending on optimism or pessimism demonstrated in the commentary (like Alan Greenspan).
- TechCrunch announces entry in the Financial world with a Web 2.0 Mutual fund.
- Om Malik’s GigaOm merges with TechCrunch.
- TechCrunch enters e-commerce arena, selling Web 2.0 related Test results, White papers and comparisions.
- TechCrunch goes Public and shares rise 200% on first day.
- Google (replace with Yahoo or Microsoft) announces special search engine for all things Web 2.0.
- TechCrunch announces the arrival of Web 3.0.
Only the time will prove if Web 2.0 has a great future or will end as a Dotcom bust, but the truth is Venture Capitalists are supporting Web 2.0 ventures. It has made Michael a millionaire. So hatch a great idea and join the Web 2.0 bandwagon.
P.S. A notable mention to PostBubble is in order here. This blog covers startup and exisiting Web 2.0 companies and provides indepth analysis and views on Web 2.0 companies. It is a definite addition to my RSS Feeds to get an alternate viewpoint to Web 2.0-o-sphere.- Harish
You have some interesting speculation there, I too look forward to what this all means, not just for TechCrunch, but for the Internet as a whole. Things are going to get interesting, no doubt.
How will TechCrunch evolve in future?…
Recently TechCrunch, a company that writes about Web 2.0 companies, completed a year of operation. TechCrunch owner is already a millionaire. Here are my thoughts on how TechCrunch may evolve in near future……
Aneil,
I read your blog today and I am glad there is an alternate viewpoint available. Some of your views really makes one wonder about the business model of many Web 2.0 companies.
Harish, That is the exact point of our blog, we are running a reality check on these new “companies” and see if they can survive in the long run. There are many websites that are started for “fun” because it is so inexpensive these days, so things are getting exciting. But, ultimately it will be most interesting to see what happens in this space as time goes on…
